Brush Lunch
As a hunting enthusiast, you may have come across the term "brush lunch" before, but what exactly does it mean? In short, a brush lunch is a meal enjoyed outdoors during a hunt, typically consisting of simple, hearty fare cooked over an open flame. It's a tradition that has been around for generations.
At our latest brush lunch, we decided to do things a little differently. Instead of the usual sandwiches and chips, we brought along a portable pizza oven and a few dozen pizza dough balls. We fired up the oven, rolled out the dough, and let everyone assemble their own custom pizzas with a variety of toppings – everything from classic cheese to more adventurous combinations like avocado, artichoke, peppers, chicken, and jalapeño.
The result was nothing short of amazing. The pizzas were cooked to perfection in just a few minutes, thanks to the high heat of the oven and the skill of Chef Jason Fagre. They were crispy, flavorful, and satisfying in a way that only a freshly-baked pizza can be.
In addition to the delicious pizza, we also had other hearty foods to enjoy at our brush lunch. We grilled up some savory sausages that had been specially seasoned with herbs and spices. The juicy, flavorful meat was the perfect accompaniment to our crispy pizzas. We also cooked up some tender, buttery potatoes in foil packets over the open flame. The potatoes had been seasoned with garlic, salt, and pepper, and they were cooked to perfection. For the main course, we had a tri-tip cut of meat that was cooked over the open flame, which gave it a smoky, charred flavor that was simply delicious. And the best part? We were able to enjoy it all while taking in the beauty of the great outdoors.
